Snapchat & Marketing

Advertising is an extremely important aspect in a business plan and in this day and age, there are so many ways to do it so we decided to give you a little insight on one of the newer platforms, Snapchat.

Over the past year, Snapchat has come out with quite a few new tools in the app that could be a useful marketing tool for your business. The one you need to worry about as a business is the addition of 3V ads which includes everything from customized Geofilter to the discover and live feed stories that feature different events. In data collected and analyzed by Snapchat, more than 60% of U.S. citizens between the ages of 13 and 34 that use a smartphone are also Snapchat users, with the total number of daily Snapchat users reaching 100 million. These numbers show that Snapchat can be an extremely useful business tool!

Advertising Tools

Snapchat has many benefits and uses as mentioned above. One of the biggest advantages of using Snapchat to advertise is the full use of the smartphone screen. Unlike its competitors, Snapchat videos are vertical and take up 100% of the screen when they are being played. On top of utilizing the full smartphone screen, Snapchat offers ad targeting while also promoting the privacy of its users. They do this by using the campaign goals of the business doing the advertising and targeting their ads to a Live Story program, a certain story within the Discovery Channel, by location, and or by gender. For example, if you are having a large event you could potentially set-up a Live Story for the event that allows the attendees to share their experience with other attendees as well as any Snapchat users in the area. You could use the same idea with an event-specific Geofilter.

However, some of these advertising tools do not come cheap. The event-specific lenses and live stories can range anywhere up to $750,000 for just a short 24-hour period. Though that may seem like a steep price to pay, the advertising that is accomplished through these lenses is incredible! People are not just viewing your “ad,” but interacting with it and sending then sending it to all of their friends to see too. However, if your business simply cannot fit that kind of price into the budget there is the simpler option of geotags.

Geofilters

Geofilters are a customized art that are specific to a place, for example, a university may have a Snapchat Geofilter as seen here for Greenville, NC. These Community Geofilters are intended for cities, universities, local landmarks, and other public locations and are free but cannot include brand logos. Snapchat also offers On-Demand Geofilters that can be purchased by businesses or individuals for events, businesses, or even a specific location. With these Geofilters, trademarks and brand logos are allowed to be used.

As you can see Snapchat has a lot to offer towards your marketing campaign and they are not done evolving as they are continuously coming up with new initiatives that will help your business advertise. Get started today with Snapchat and help grow the awareness of your brand.
