It’s 2021 and the world is somehow steadily becoming a wilder and more unpredictable place day-by-day, so these two major corporate entities have decided to bless us with sweet nostalgic blasts-from-the-past with their new, yet old, logo design Raleigh NC branding. The question that remains unanswered: Why is this retro-style branding/logo design working in the 21st century?
If you were to look at a handful of other major corporate entities besides Burger King, their logo design and branding would most likely consist of very minimal, flat designs. Today, Burger King has successfully managed to combine both modern logo design Raleigh NC and branding with the ever-popular nostalgic look from the ‘70s. It’s also worth noting that this is the brand’s first major redesign in 20 years that includes a new logo, packaging, restaurant signage and decor, social, digital, and marketing assets. The new and improved brand identity even came with a custom serif typeface accompanied by a retro color palette, like ketchup and mustard, that mimics the colors of the new menu items.
This strategic branding move was mirrored in a sense by Anheuser-Busch’s, Natural Light earlier this month. The beverage giant has announced its limited-edition Natty Light cans specifically designed for the Carolinas logo design Raleigh NC. The arrival of this exclusive can was brought on to honor the beverage’s most valued customers - college students - within the two states. The cans, being limited to North Carolina and South Carolina, feature vintage (flat design) graphics from the early days of Natty Light’s existence, and the 24-pack carrier also says “Raised in the Carolinas since 1977.”Although Natty Light, makes me think of sticky floors, second-hand smoke, muggy tailgates, gut-wrenching shotguns, and frat dudes asking me “who do you know here?” I would most likely still pick this bad boy up if I saw it staring at me in our local Walmart.
Now, I’m not one to speculate, but that’s two major brands in the span of two months who have played the “vintage” flat design card and have found astounding success in doing so. Could we see this trend skyrocket in 2021?Being the late 90’s baby that I am; I, as well as my fellow millennials, yearn for those sweet childhood memories. It is because of this vintage affliction that I love shows such as Stranger Things, thrifted clothing, and photos shot on film. It is also because of this that I gravitate towards the flatter logo designs built on a very minimalistic style. Minimalism is a design approach that utilizes existing elements, maximizing simplicity and capitalizing on space. It separates businesses from their less contemporary counterparts and allows your assets to be utilized in a wide variety of ways. It’s a design style that has been around for decades and will continue to be used for many years to come.
