Have you gotten an e-mail from Google lately regarding your expanded text ads similar to the one below?

"Dear Google Ads Advertiser, You’re receiving this message because in the last 90 days, one or more of the ad groups in your Google Ads account contained an active expanded text ad."

When Google best practice has always included expanded text ads - what does this mean for your current Google ads campaigns? Why is Google making the switch from expanded text ads? Learn more about search advertising Greenville NC and the switch from expanded text ads from Red Shark Digital, North Carolina's #1 digital advertising agency.

What’s changing on Google Ads?

Starting June 30, 2022, you will no longer be able to create or edit expanded text ads in Google Ads (or any other platform that supports expanded text ads such as Google Ads Editor, the Google Ads mobile app, or API). If you have any expanded text ads still serving, they will continue to wrong alongside responsive search ads and their metrics will still be included in the data. You'll be able to pause and remove the expanded text ads, however, you will not be able to edit them.

What does this mean for advertisers?

To prepare for this change, Red Shark Digital recommends search advertising Greenville NC does an audit of current expanded text ads running for your accounts. Although you will be able to pause and remove the expanded text ads you will not be able to edit. We also recommend that you have at least one responsive search ad in every ad group in your Search campaigns by June 30, 2022. Writing compelling ad copy can be difficult, especially when keywords are involved. We recommend getting started as soon as possible, reworking your accounts' ads. To help, we’ve put together a few resources and best practices for search advertising Greenville NC:

  • Repurpose high-performing content from your expanded text ads and focus on Ad strength. Ad strength provides you with feedback on the effectiveness of your responsive search ads and action items to improve them. It is important to look at ad rank and lost impression share due to ad rank to decipher the quality of your current responsive search ads.
  • Check your account’s Recommendations page. Recommendations page are like Google ad's holy grail of optimizations. These customized suggestions can help you quickly add or improve responsive search ads.
  • Pin headlines or descriptions to specific positions in your responsive search ads. This is useful if you have certain messages that always need to be shown. Pinning headlines or descriptions is similar to expanded text ads, meaning the pinned text is always shown to the user. If you need to use pinning, try to pin at least 3 options to a position.
  • Use ad variations. Using ad variations can help test different copy and versions of your ads at scale. You are also able to review their performance across multiple campaigns to A/B test.
  • Use Google Ads Editor or the Google Ads API to create and edit your responsive search ads at scale.
